The Prism
The fundamental behaviour of light as it travels between different substances has been a subject of intense scientific inquiry for centuries. A pivotal figure in this exploration was Isaac Newton, whose systematic experiments with a particular geometric solid laid the groundwork for our modern comprehension of the spectral properties of electromagnetic radiation. This solid, the triangular prism remains the most elementary and instructive device for demonstrating the control and decomposition of light. Its operation is not a matter of colouration or filtration in the conventional sense, but a direct consequence of geometric form interacting with the inherent physical properties of light and matter.
